STUDENT HEALTH INITIATIVE
supporting the future of leadership
Student Boot Camps - supporting sustainable leadership
The future of leadership rests quite heavily on business schools as their responsibility is to develop leaders that are able to meet future demands, which is why we have launched a health initiative for educational institutions in the UK and Norway. The aims and objectives are to improve physical and mental health, increase mobility, as well as improve focus and learning abilities among students – supporting future sustainable leadership in a global environment.
The program is designed to progress through different phases, to ensure development while fortifying physiological and psychological wellbeing, motivation and energy. Each phase consists of 2 exercises for warm up followed by 5 - 7 circuit exercises. The program is based on strength and stamina, and uses individual body weight as resistance. (The programme is also adapted by the coach/instructor to fit with individual needs). In this way, all participants will gradually build strength, increase stamina and energy levels, as well as improve focus, sleep and alertness. The program has been developed since 2016, when we ran a beta test among MBA students at Henley Business School in England.
The program is offered as a weekly circuit and service for Business Schools in the UK and Norway (For both students and staff), and will be scheduled together with the institution to align with taught programmes and coursework. "I joined this bootcamp soon after beginning my MBA - I knew from previous experience that bootcamps were not only a way to get fit, but also to have fun and connect with my fellow colleagues, but that they really needed to be guided by someone who knew what they were doing. This initiative did not disappoint! I found the sessions engaging and challenging and they certainly got my heart rate up throughout the session. What I liked best was the focus on support we were given, encouragement and safety, enabling us all to do our best, whatever the level of fitness. It also focused on team work with exercises often involving working with a partner and on a few occasions when we had a big enough group we would split into teams for some healthy competition, all while having fun, and of course raising that heartbeat! I would definitely recommend this initative to anyone who wants to get fit and wants to have a bit of fun along the way" (Sarah Eames, MBA, Henley Business School, 2017).
